Written to my mother...
You call me baby when you love me,
But you say I'm a grown man when you're mad,
You see me as your little boy when you hug me,
And a disappointment when you're sad,
And I'm stuck....
Stuck between my own place and my old crib,
When the baby bird is pushed from the nest,
How do you think the baby bird feels,
Falling helpless and unaware of what is going on,
I panic,
Shocked, because the place I called home is no longer that,
The place that was my own, has become an apartment for rent,
My dreams put on hold because real life demands attention,
So every fictional preminition, has become it's own religion,
I've gotta have faith to get it,
I've made the mistakes and mishaps so my brothers and sisters don't,
And they're given recognition for steppin over the pot holes that flattened my tires,
This IS my sacrafice,
Slipping on all of lifes wet spots, then putting up,
Slippery when wet signs.
Mama Bird....
You push me out of the nest, and when I'm at the edge,
You tell me I can stay,
But if I stay, all your food will be given to my younger siblings,
And I will be left starving and expected to fend for myself,
I don't have the branches to make my own nest, but I'm getting them,
So while I get ready to leave the nest,
Please....Give me shelter,
Cause if I get pushed out the nest too early,
I will surely be eatin......
